As you begin the study of any topic, it is important to become familiar with the terminology, philosophies, and theories relevant to the field of study. The research you conduct for this paper will help you to explore foundational concepts in data analytics.
Activity Instructions
To learn about data analytics in business, we must first define the context in which it exists.
Conduct research within the TU library databases and credible Internet resources to answer the following questions and begin your exploration of data analytics terminology, philosophy, and theory:
- What is the role of data analytics in business?
- Who is responsible for performing data analytics?
- How is data analytics performed?
- Consider the components of data analytics:
- What is structured, unstructured, and semi-structured data and how does this relate to questions 1-3?
- How are data, information, and knowledge differentiated? Why does this matter to a business?
- What is metadata and what is its role in data analytics?
As you conduct your research and analysis, you may wish to begin with the terminology, or by researching various companies and their approaches to data analytics, or by exploring current events and trends in the field.
Writing and Submission Requirements
- 2-3 pages (approx. 300 words per page), not including title page or references page.
- References page (minimum of 2 resources)
Written Assignments You will submit many written assignments to demonstrate your understanding of course concepts or target skills. Grading will be based on course outcomes, content, use of resources, and adherence to college-level writing and grammar standards. Though each assignment may specify unique requirements, written work usually requires the following common elements:
• 1-inch margins
• Double spaced
• 12-point Times New Roman font
• Title page with topic and your name
• References page (assignment may specify minimum number of resources)
