Candide is a naïve young man who is hopelessness but good-hearted. Pangloss was the tutor to Candide and he teaches Candide that they are living in the best world. Candide was banished from his home where he had been adopted and then traveled to the world where he met many misfortunes. This happened when he was following after Cunegonde a woman whom he had loved. The actions and opinions of Candide are influenced by other external factors. There is disillusionment of Candide which takes place gradually which was a reflection of the Europeans during the era of Voltaire. The main purpose of the paper is to discuss troubles, aspirations, and adventures of Candide who is a character in Voltaire Candide.

Candide has a heroic figure because he rises to the occasion and killed Issachar. As a hero, he went through an adventure and every place he went, there is a great thing. It is not easy for one to go to an adventure in unknown places. Aided by two soldiers, Candide was able to travel to the neighboring town despite being hungry and cold. He endured a lot of beatings by his superiors and witnessed horrors as he pressed through the village. Candide hoped to find fortunes in the Christian Holland where he had run to. It not easy to find good people but Candide meets Anabaptist who was very good to him and showed him a lot of kindness and he was also very generous. He met with a beggar had a problem of diseases that disfigured her body. In the novel, Candide is a protagonist and he did not find true happiness as well as the ultimate message. Candide has an open mind and compassionate about what he wants to achieve and this is what he used to view atrocities. He does not have discriminatory disbelief. The abuse of power that he comes across was perplexed by it more so in most of the places that he traveled. As a hero, he had a firm stand and did not allow his inner character to be moved by the world that was outside him. He also approached a disaster that was endless and coming on his way a blank canvas. Candide is a naïve young man who is willing to take opportunities that comes on his way. He is impressionable and believes that good things will happen and blank canvas happened throughout the novel. He dropped his guard when bad things happened to him. Candide has been portrayed as a character that is one- dimensional and sympathetic. He is point suffering and he did not have street smarts and had his hope against the odds that he had. Candide is held as a paragon of virtue which makes him lack the true definition of happiness.
