Of most importance is that, before starting the assignment, you understand what Strategic Planning
and Emergent Strategy mean:
• the differences between two, including their underlying logic;
• how each was the start of a different tradition in Strategic Management;
• and their basis of an ongoing debate in the field and in industry practice (later theories of
strategy are related to the debate between the two)
