Assignment Question
Write a Research Proposal on a topic of your interest.
The assignment should consist of the following parts:
1. Introduction (approx. 500 words). Provide a brief introduction outlining the aims, key
arguments/conclusions and the structure of the proposal.
2. Literature Review (approx. 1,200 words). Provide an overview of the general area of your
study, that is an informative literature review that would summarise the current state of
knowledge and recent debates on the topic of your interest. This will allow you to
demonstrate your familiarity with the relevant field and your ability to communicate your
knowledge in a clear and coherent fashion.
3. Methodology (approx. 1,000 words). In this part of your work you should: a) outline your
Research Question(s) and b) describe your methodological approach. It is expected that you
will clearly define what are your research questions and ensure that they derive from your
literature review. You will also explain what method of data collection is suitable for your
study and why? As well as how do you plan to analyse your data and how is this going to help
you address your research question(s).
4. Conclusion/Summary (approx. 300 words). Conclude with a summary of your proposed
research project. In this section you should also reflect on possible limitations of your study
and any other issues that you might face during the process of collecting and analysing your
data as well as writing up your final thesis.
In addition to the criteria outlined above, you are expected to demonstrate:
1. in-depth knowledge and understanding of the relevant literature and competence in
identifying the relevant concepts and theories that are relevant to the topic of your interest.
2. understanding of the different methodologies, clear articulation of your chosen
methodological approach and a critical reflection of the methodological issues underpinning
your study.
3. ability to clearly articulate and communicate your own ideas and opinions in writing, to
develop arguments, and to structure a written presentation in a logical and coherent
manner.
