This essay critically analysis the role of Free Trade Areas (FTAs) in advancing economic growth and strengthening regional integration. Over the course of 7 decades (post World War II), there has been significant increase in the way the global economy has prospered, leading to region ad global peace and prosperity.it is evident that since North American Free Trade Area (NAFTA), Mexico has seen a 40 percent increase in its per capita gross domestic product. In addition, US FDI in Mexico went from $15 billion pre-NAFTA to approximately $90 billion. Building on such arguments and factual information, this essay aims to analyse the role of European Union (EU) in stregengthig the regional community cohesion in Europe, an increase in economic activity to monetary and customs union. This research is primarily drawn on the regional-integration examples and relevant literature. To start with, theoretical accounts are provided together with the definitions of aforementioned Union and their wider role. Second, a brief historical view is presented where the reasons and rational for such economic integration is provided. This is then followed by recent account of even leading up to the withdrawal of the United Kingdom from the EU and the reason behind such decision taken. Furthermore, there are numerous business examples provided as to either support of reject such idea. Largely this research is aimed at outlining the main reason for (dis)integration of the Union. The study is underpinned by, largely, policy literature located at the Europa.EU and Gov.UK websites, some scholarly work and industry examples. Towards the end, there are 15 references provided that support the arguments moving forward.

Once you feel you have reviewed the articles, start summarising and synthesising the literature. A note of caution, stay focused and do not get carried away with the flotilla of literature that you will come across. Keep a record of whatever you read, you will need this to populate the list of references towards the end.
