Eliana A As the life expectancy increases, there is important to consider if this population will be accompanied by sustained or improved health. Therefore, in order for everyone to enjoy optimal health and human care services there is necessary to successfully adapt health services delivery with focus on covering person’s physical and social environments. According to the source, health care organizations, professional groups, clinicians, hospitals, insurance plans, and all who relate to this matter, should adopt as their explicit purpose to continually reduce the burden of illness, injury, and disability, and to improve the health and functioning of the people of the citizens (The Future of the Public’s Health in the 21st Century). The health, social service needs and the barriers that elder individuals may face as they age include economic burden, lack of housing, limited access to health care services, personal care, transportation and community activities. Studies and facts show that the incomes of older adults will remain lower than those of the general population. On my personal opinion that might be the biggest challenge the elderly face. Even though the government has programs designated to take care of the elderly and their basic needs, in most cases their needs are not satisfy. Elderly needs increased with age, most of them are alone and forgotten by their love ones. What I worry the most in terms of my own aging is to have to go through this life stage alone It seems like a big part of this population is left behind by their family and love ones. I work very close with this population and everyday see how there is more of them alone and without the resources or the help needed to return to their homes. Jeremy C One of the most noticeable differences between this generation and other generations is the advancement of technology especially in healthcare. This advancement has greatly improved the life expectancy at birth in the past decade (Leading Health Indicators, 2014). This has created a need for an increase in quality of life for older people since they are able to live longer than every before. This has become a problem with 64.3 percent of adults 65 and older self-reporting good or better physical health (Health-Related Quality of Life & Well-Being, 2010). One of the first needs to fix this issue is better access to healthcare services and medical advice. However, there can be a financial barrier for this need since insurance and healthcare can be very expensive for older adults who are on a fixed income due to retirement. Another need that can be hindered by a financial hurdle is the ability to fully live a high-quality life through retirement. Many adults over 65 are required to work in order to survive which can potentially decrease quality of life. This is also my biggest fear for my own aging since I do not like that Social Security will not be around when I am 65 which can make life more difficult over time.
