1. Identify a healthcare innovation that is in the emerging stage of market
development. Write a maximum of one-page, with references, describing how
product standards and quality are established. Address how the rate of
technological and market change affects the product’s potential for success
during the emerging stage of market development.
2. Research one large healthcare system, and note its core business and any
diversified organizations. Is the system practicing related or unrelated
diversification? How does this strategy reflect its mission and vision (support
your work with references)?
3. Many healthcare organizations have been subject to state and federal fines and
criminal investigation. Identify an organization that did not act in accordance
with its values, mission, and vision and incurred criminal/civil fines as a
result. In one-page describe how the organization’s activities did not reflect its
written strategic intent and propose lawful actions it could have taken to
embrace its written values and achieve better outcomes (support your work
with references).
4. Pick a local hospital, and based on available literature conduct a SWOT
analysis. You may take literary license in making operational assumptions for
information you cannot obtain. Use a matrix for the SWOT analysis.
5. Develop a list of 10 barriers to entry for the following healthcare organizations:
(a) hospitals; (b) physician practices; (c) nursing homes; (d) insurance
companies; (e) pharmaceutical companies. How and why do the barriers to
entry vary among these different healthcare groups (support your answers
with references)?
6. What problems are inherent in the use of financial ratios for US hospitals
(support your work with references)? This discussion should include identifying
benchmarking data sources and the risks in utilizing this data.
