Essay Title: Many environmental problems are caused by the
global food industry. Can consumers reverse these impacts
through the choices they make?
This question need to outline the problems associated with either consumerism or
with tourism and look at….. Whether consumers can change their habits and whether
ethical or sustainable consumption can stop or reverse the negative impacts of
consumption. You could focus on one area of consumption – it could be fashion or
food, but it could be something else you are interested in, cars or flying for example.
You should address arguments about whether individuals can resist consumption, and
whether individual change is enough to challenge the global system.
Your essay will be assessed on the following criteria. These
relate to the first three learning outcomes of the module. You
will be expected to:
Write in an appropriate academic style with accurate use of English and using the
correct Harvard referencing procedure.
Use evidence from further reading, with a minimum c. 10 appropriate references
from a variety of sources including books, journal articles and web-sites.
Show you can develops an argument/makes a case supported by appropriate
evidence from recent data and research concerning links between personal and
local experience, national and global institutions.
Demonstrate engagement with different views/perspectives (by examining
debates or comparing different arguments) showing an ability to discuss key
theoretical perspectives concerning the significance of global mobility for
environmental impacts.
Demonstrate critical engagement with both arguments and evidence, evaluating
the contribution of academic work to understanding how globalizing processes
impact on the environment.
