Chapter Three: Methods
Overview
The proposed study seeks to assess the experiences of nostalgia and depression outcomes
for adult immigrants. The proposed study hopes to describe the perceptions of immigrant
population regarding the contribution of nostalgia to their depression and the determinants of
culture, pre-immigration mental health, and host country factors. This section of the proposal
outlines the methods utilized in the research including the procedures, research design, and
analysis. In essence, the third chapter provides a narrative of the details that will occur during the
execution of the research. It includes the following subsections: research design, research
questions, setting, participants, researcher role, data collection instruments, data analysis,
trustworthiness, and ethical considerations.
Design
The projected study adopts a qualitative design based on the specific choice of data and
methods of data collection. The emphasis of the research is on collecting data about the
experiences and perceptions of participants regarding the influence of nostalgia on their levels of
depression. Qualitative research emphasizes on the hows and whys, instead of focusing on the
quantity. The proposed study does not seek to quantify outcomes; however, it seeks to analyze
patterns in the perceptions and experiences of participants (Yadav, 2022). The framing of the
study within the limitations of qualitative research is also consistent with the goal of
comprehending shared meanings and individual experiences of the targeted population.
The research uses phenomenology as a method of investigating the research topic. This
method is appropriate because it allows for an in-depth examination of the lived experiences and
