For this assignment you will take the perspective of a consultant brought on to give a report to the
Board of Directors on key ways to improve organizational functioning in a human service organization
you are familiar with. Your task is to create a short presentation to the board outlining 1) a current
challenge the organization is dealing with, 2) how it is connected to the external environment the
organization operates in, and 3) steps that you believe the organization should take to do a better job
of dealing with it. As you make your presentation, please take into consideration the interests of the
boarde.g., the resources it depends on, legitimacy in the community, etcand their potential
alignment (or not) with the problem or solutions you have identified.
Other members of the class will act as board members, asking questions to more fully understand the
situation and potential solution, and otherwise gaining the information they need to make an informed
decision to move forward or not.
You will sign up to present at a board meeting” – I will send out a link to sign up closer to the end of
the term.
Each person at the meeting will present for 8-10 minutes, followed by 5 minutes Q&A. Every student is
asked to attend two meetings, one in which you present and also serve as a board member for your
colleagues, and a second in which you only serve as a board member.
Guidelines:
The board is paying you to deliver expert analysis and insight, not simple description.
Bringing in relevant literature or other evidence is encouraged: the Board needs to know that your
expertise is grounded in something beyond opinion! This may also include quotes from key
informant interviews, quotes from organizational documents, or examples of other organizations
that have achieved success.

Final: Conduct an Organizational Analysis Presentation
The presentation should showcase your professional skills. Make sure to organize and format the
presentation so that it is conceptually clear and take care to highlight your most important
conclusions.
Your presentation should be between 8 and 10 minutes. Longer is not necessarily better. Practice
so you know you have got the timing right, without having to talk too fast I will serve as
timekeeper.
Your presentation materials are due via Canvas by Sunday May 23 at 9pm. You may submit any
materials you would like to prepare to guide your presentation. You are not being graded on
writing so this can be an outline, a table, a document, a powerpoint it is up to you.
I have posted a grading rubric indicating the criteria I will use to assess your work.

My field placement is CBCAC, the link is https://cbcacchicago.org/
We are an NPO. Our mission is: The Coalition for a Better Chinese American
Community (CBCAC) unites the resources of member organizations and individual
members to empower Chinese American communities in Greater Chicago.
1) a current challenge the organization is dealing with,
I think the problem with our organization at the moment is the low visibility and small
size. Our organization currently has only seven regular employees and two interns.
This results in a relatively large workload for us. Our client base is relatively fixed.
Because of the low visibility problem, it is difficult for us to acquire new clients. Also,
the concepts and activities we are trying to promote are not well received.
2) how it is connected to the external environment the organization operates in, and
In terms of external links. We’ll be working with other organizations inside the
community. Once a client’s business is outside of our scope, we refer them to
another organization for help. We also co-organize events of a lecture nature.
Through joint events we promote our organization to the clients of other
organizations.
3) steps that you believe the organization should take to do a better job of dealing
with it.
I need you to help me think about this one.
