Business Professional Assessment 3: Commercial Awareness

Business Professional Assessment 3: Commercial Awareness

SCENARIO:
Assessment 2, your Individual Presentation task, was to prepare a marketing plan for the maximum
profit for the producers of a recently successful movie.
Now you should complete a 2-part Commercial Awareness assignment on your proposals:
Part 1: Individual Written Report: cover page, introduction, methodology, analysis (think about how to
structure this main body section) conclusion, and reference list.
Part 2: Individual Personal Development Plan based on your studies this semester.

ESSENTIAL INFORMATION
Document structure:
– Part 1 of 2: Individual Marketing Plan 1000 words (+/- 10%)
– Part 2 of 2: Individual Personal Development Plan
Style:
– Part 1 is a report, written in a formal, professional style. SUBMITTED AND GRADED INDIVIDUALLY.
– Part 2 is an Individual Personal Development Plan SUBMITTED AND GRADED INDIVIDUALLY.
Submission details:
There are 2 parts to be submitted simultaneously and individually.
 You must INDIVIDUALLY submit 1 written Report via turnitinuk at the end of the course – the
Friday of week 11 at 4pm.
 At the same time, you must also INDIVIDUALLY complete and submit your Individual Personal
Development Plan as an appendix to your Report AFTER the reference list.
Each of the two sections; the Written Report and the Personal Development Plan, are assessed and
marked independently.
The breakdown is as follows:
 The Individual Written Report accounts for 80% of the marks for this assignment,
 The Individual Personal Development Plan accounts for 20%.
 This assignment overall is worth 50% of the marks of the module.

Both elements must be presented in full in order to pass this final assignment.

Part 1 The Individually Written Report.
Submitted through turnitinuk.
80% of this assignment
Your task is to prepare a marketing plan for maximising profit from a recently successful movie.
 You will be expected to show the main marketing and promotional channels you will use to
do this. You must also show evidence of research, which must be correctly cited and
referenced, showing your ideas have a sound basis and proven track record.
 Included in the Marketing plan:
 Introduction and objectives: describe what you will do and what your target and vision are.
 Context / background: You need to anticipate ways in which money can be made from the
movie.
 You need to state what your expectations are. Are there any special circumstances? For
example, in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Disney had built up expectations for established
fans as well as pitching the film as a cultural event for a new generation, ensuring future
audiences as the film is the beginning of a new trilogy. The marketing methods which were
used (not all overt), were in tune with their target market. Collectors were considered.
Think back to what we have discussed about how the marketing best suits the audience
market targeted. Cite support for your assertions.
 Target audience: Describe / define who your target customers are and why (with evidence).
 You need to do some research into its competition and perhaps this will impact your timings
if you have any?
Hints & tips:
 Why is it important for you to identify your target audience? Because it will determine which
media you will use to attract them. Give evidence that this media is effective with this
identified audience.
 Marketing plan: choose the marketing campaign that will ensure maximum profit. You
should describe each element of the campaign in detail and what you expect to achieve in
sales, based on previous comparable performance (evidence)!
 Timeframe: Your plan should include a pre-launch, launch and post launch period. Think
about how and when you want to start your promotions, how many weeks or months before
the launch?
 Consider events such as The Academy Awards (Oscars) or public holidays that may coincide
in time with your launch. Can you use them to your advantage?
You will have done the research for this as you will have completed your Individual
Presentation on this topic. But how YOU write up this information is how YOUR REPORT
will be assessed.
Referencing:
– You are expected to carry out research and integrate literature (reports, news items etc.) into your
report
– There should be at least 2 citations per paragraph, as usual in an academic text.
– You need to support your points/plans/anticipated numbers by evidence.

– Put sources in A to Z order
– Reference list should be on a new page
– No bibliography is required
– Must use Harvard-style referencing
You should all know how to do this by now: the expectation is that your references will now be
PERFECT.
Part 2 – The individual Personal Development Plan
Submitted as an appendix to your Report, after the Reference List. 20% of the final 50% weighted
assessment.
You should answer the following questions as honestly as you can, in order to focus your mind on
next year’s studies:
1. DO YOU PREFER WORKING INDIVIDUALLY OR IN GROUPS, AND WHY? GIVE REAL EXAMPLES
FROM EACH WAY OF WORKING WHICH DEMONSTRATE AND EXPLAIN YOUR PREFERENCES (IF
ANY).
2. WHAT ARE THE DIFFERENCES BETWEEN AN ESSAY AND A REPORT AND WHICH DO YOU
THINK WILL BE MORE USEFUL IN YOUR FUTURE STUDIES AND WORK?
3. WHAT HAVE YOU LEARNED ABOUT YOUR ABILITY TO GIVE A PROFESSIONAL PRESENTATION?
WHAT PRACTICAL STEPS WILL YOU TAKE TO IMPROVE IN THIS IMPORTANT SKILL?
4. WHAT ARE YOU MOST EXCITED ABOUT AND MOST NERVOUS ABOUT IN TERMS OF MOVING
TO YEAR TWO OF YOUR DEGREE? HOW WILL YOU APPROACH ASPECTS YOU ARE WORRIED
ABOUT?
There is not a set word count for this, but answers should be between 400 – 800 words overall.
References are not necessary unless you want to show you have read around the topic of study
skills.
