Answer ONE question ONLY.
1. Outline the crucial roles that banks play in the modern
financial system. In your answer, make distinctions
between different types of bank (central, commercial,
investment etc).
2. Covid-19 has wreaked havoc on equity markets worldwide.
In such times, are investors likely to be better served by
‘active’ fund managers or by ‘passive’ index funds?
3. Arjaliès et al (2017) describe financial intermediation as a
‘tax’ on the rest of the economy? Is this a fair description
or do financial intermediaries add value to investment
decision-making in various ways?
