Students are required to produce a 1,500-word proposal for their supervisor.


Your proposal should be submitted electronically via Aula using the eSubmission link in Aula. Your supervisor will provide feedback on the proposal; however, the mark will stand.

The Proposal is a development of the initial Research Topic and will take the format of Background, Aims and Objectives, Rationale, Outline Literature Review, Outline Methodology, Project Plan (GANTT chart or similar) and an ethics request form.

The proposal is designed to focus your thoughts on what you are trying to achieve before attempting the main project itself. It helps you and your supervisor clarify your aims and objectives and ensures that all work following the proposal is effective and productive in facilitating your achievement of the learning outcomes of the module.

Some restrictions are placed on the choice of the topic. We would expect it to be:
• Relevant to business, defined broadly
• Related to your pathway, i.e. MSc Management and Marketing students must chose a marketing topic; MSc Management and International Business must choose a relevant topic related to International Business; and MSc Management and Finance must choose a Finance-related topic.
• Clearly focused so as to facilitate an in-depth approach, subject to the availability of adequate sources and to your own knowledge;
• Of value and interest to you and your personal development.
