ASB4440 Individual essay
Individual essay details
Write a maximum of 2,500 words reflective essay that addresses the following:
Critically reflect on your own consumption within the clothing OR electronics category and
analyse pertinent drivers underlying your behaviour with regard to purchasing a specific
product (a one-off purchase or very occasional purchase). Analyse the potential role of culture
in shaping your perceptions, attitudes, and choices. Analyse the role of the digital world in
shaping your perceptions, attitudes, and choices. You must discuss culture and the digital
world throughout your essay.
Analyse means scrutinise in detail. You need to discuss academic literature and link it to your
own reflections. The academic literature should provide supportive evidence of why you
thought or behaved as you did. Specific requirements are given below.
You are required to:
• focus your essay on either clothing or electronic product category.
• draw on six theories, models, or concepts, from at least four lectures, in your analysis.
(You can choose to discuss any theories, models, or concepts covered in class or in the
associated reading, but in total you need to cover at least four of the lectures on this
module.)
• relate to culture and the digital world throughout your essay.
• go beyond the mundane reasons for your consumption.
• be analytical and critical in your reflection not simply describe your behaviour.
• cite at least 10 different academic sources (journals and books) to underpin your essay in
the relevant literature. At least 6 of the sources must be journal articles relevant to the
theories/concepts being discussed.
• use the Harvard referencing format – see the BBS concise guide to referencing within the
assignment folder on Blackboard.
• submit a copy of the essay to Turnitin.
The limit of 2,500 words is the upper limit for this assignment and you must not go over this
word count. You can have a minimum of 2,000 words. The word count excludes references
and any appendix or other supplementary material such as screen shots.
The essay should be written in Word format using 1.5 line spacing, with 12-point Times New
Roman text in 1st person reporting style. Sentences should not start with coordinating
conjunctions (i.e. and, but).
