Assignment:
Each student will be required to prepare a reflective essay of 2000 words (excluding
appendices). To start the process, at the end of each lecture each student will record/note
down three key points he/she has learned. The key points should be expressed/written in
your own words. So, by the end of week 10, each student should have 30 key points which
can then be used as the basis for developing a reflective essay. The 30 key points should be
included in the submitted essay as an appendix. The essay should reflect the key insights
on international cooperative strategy (e.g. how to choose partners and manage alliances)
that the student has gained from the module as a whole and illustrate these with reference
to at least three case studies. The submission deadline is 20th April 2020.
Module Learning Outcomes:
In this assessment the following learning outcomes will be covered:
LO 1. Demonstrate comprehensive knowledge and understanding of the role of cooperative
strategy, and its expression through strategic alliances, in the modern business context.
LO 2. Identify and critique perspectives from different disciplines that contribute to an
understanding of cooperative strategy and strategic alliances.
LO 3. Explain and appraise the considerations involved in establishing alliances, selecting
partners and choosing an alliance form.
LO 4. Demonstrate a critical awareness of issues arising in the management of strategic
alliances, with special reference to cross-border alliances.
LO 5. Critically evaluate factors impacting on the achievement of alliance objectives
(including learning) and on how they may evolve over time.
