It is arguably one of the city’s first major public artwork. The ‘fisherman’ honors the contribution of the early Italian fishing community (Old Town Pittsburg Historic District). Seeno posits that it is a dedication to Isola delle Femmine which is the City’s Sister City in Italy (1). It was designed and created by a local gifted artist named Frank Vitale. During the 1970s works of art were employed to enhance and beautify the city. However, beginning 1990s numerous pieces of art emerged in at the old town of Pittsburg, California. This was a dream the son achieved through years of sheer hard work and sacrifice. It sufficed to be a bright day as the fisherman remembered the celebrations that followed the boat’s christening.
