Assignment 3 is a take-home analysis of one case study. We will provide you with three case studies to download and read through, however you need only analyse and write about one case for your assignment.
Each case study requires an analysis around a central issue, which should be a key “service operations challenge”, or “service operations gap”, you identify in the case study. You should read the case, identify a significant service challenge from what is described, and then proceed to analyse and resolve it. We will list the central operations principles to explore for each case study for you, however the analysis will ultimately be up to you. We do encourage your analysis to both include, and also go beyond the central principles we identify. Your assignment analysis should be no more than 1,500 words (excluding bibliography).
The case studies and questions provide an opportunity to discuss course concepts, with each case study providing the context for your analysis. Your analysis should: a. demonstrate your understanding of course concepts, and b. clearly show that you have read the case and understand the issues (from an operations perspective), and c. can address and generalise solutions to the issues of the case to other industries and operations problems.
The case studies for this assignment will be made available for download through Moodle at the end of week 11.
Assignment Discussion Instructions
In week 12, we will provide access to online Moodle discussion forums for each case (there will be no on-campus lecture in week 12) so that you can post questions to a Lecturer, and participate in discussion with other students. Joining the ‘online classroom’ in week 12 will work such that while your online participation is not mandatory, participation will help you with the assignment task.
Assignment Submission instructions:
The word limit for assignment 3 is 1,500 words. The format is not specified however a hybrid between an essay and a report is preferred with concise analysis being more critical than ‘form’.
• You should submit your assignment to Moodle by the deadline as a word.doc(x) file only. Please include your student number in the document header.
• The usual late penalties apply.
