CASE STUDY- Act as a public auditor
Consider yourself as a Manager in one of the Big four auditing companies and you have
assigned to audit one of the large Public Listed Companies in the UK. You have been
involved in many audits before in the same sector and now you audit this company for the
first time.
REQUIRED:
Write a report consists of 3500 – 4500 words about the whole auditing involvement
from selecting you by the Audit committee until you issued the annual report
including the audit report.
You have to take the following into consideration:
1 Critically evaluate the nature, purpose and scope and governance of auditing and
internal control processes within business organisations as part of the audit the conceptual
framework. (15 Marks)
2 Evaluate accounting and internal control risks and systems (15 Marks)
3 Appraise and critically review audit risk, audit procedures and audit evidence.
(15 Marks)
4 Evaluate audit procedures within audit assignments (15 Marks)
5 Appraise the nature of the audit report and its limitations (15 Marks)
6 Explain and be aware of the extending audit horizons (15 Marks)
Total (90 Marks)
NOTE:
 In writing your report, you need to make reference to the relevant International
Standards on Auditing (ISAs), where applicable.
 10 marks are available for report structure and writing style. (10 Marks)
 Report writing is strongly associated with researching and reviewing the relevant
empirical and theoretical literature. That means that you must fully utilise the
University’s library, especially the electronic database which provides full access to
peer reviewed academic publications.
