INDIVIDUAL WRITTEN COURSEWORK (90% OF THE FINAL MARK)
Consider the hypothetical case of a software development company named BEA19
Technologies Ltd., operating in the UK. The company has decided to turn its
attention to developing tracking software for use in wearable and tagging devices.
Tracking software has applications in different markets and in order to make
decisions about the company’s future strategy, the owner of the business has
commissioned you to provide a report on ONE of the following:
 Residential and domiciliary care of the elderly (any country)
 Manufacturing (any country)
 Construction (any country)
 Agriculture (any country)
 Sports coaching industry (any country)
Structure your report in the following way (a suggested word limit is shown for each
section):
1. You should first identify how a tracking device could be used to solve a
problem in the business environment of your choice. For example;
 Why might a tracking device be useful in a residential care home?
 Why might a tracking device be useful in a factory?
 Why might a wearable tracking device be helpful to an
employer/employee working in a factory, on a construction site or in
agriculture?
 Why might a tracking device on a vehicle or on a piece of equipment
be useful in a factory, on a construction site, on a farm?
 Why might a tracking device be useful to a sports coach/athlete?

2. Provide an analysis of the external macro environment for the business
environment of your choice. Provide a rationale for why you have used
specific tools to analyse the forces within the macro environment.

3. Provide an analysis of the external micro environment (the operating business
environment) for the business environment of your choice. Include in this
section, an in-depth analysis of key stakeholders within this sector. Provide a
rationale for why you have used specific tools to analyse organisations within
the micro environment. In this section you should also comment on the
interdependency of organisations and on the threats and opportunities
different stakeholders bring to this environment. Also consider how these
opportunities and threats may change in the future. You may include a
stakeholder map in this section.

4. Conclude your report with a summary of your analysis and provide advice to
BEA19 Technologies Ltd. on how it should address findings of both a positive
and negative nature in the macro and micro external environments, if it were
to pursue a position in this industry sector. [~ 500]
5. Appendices should include any additional information (e.g. data/articles you
do not want to include in the main text of the report). This section will not
count towards your word limit.
Guidance notes:
Individual Essay (90%)
Word limit: 5000 words, excluding Tables, Appendices and References.
The individual essay should be in Regular 12-point font, Times New Roman, 1.5
line spacing, justified alignment with Normal page margins (1 inch top, bottom,
left and right) and page numbers in the bottom right.
The references should be formatted in the Harvard Referencing Style (see
https://workspace.imperial.ac.uk/library/Public/Harvard_referencing.pdf).
From Week 1 onwards, students can book individual appointments with one of the
REs to discuss the progress of their essays during the REs’ office hours.
Students should be warned that the provisions of the University’s Regulation
